Awign is SaaS oriented company focused on managing the humongous amount of unorganized data being collected in educational institutions & delivering the solution for cumbersome manual processes affiliated with the same. It acts as a common platform connecting all stakeholders in an education scenario with the focus towards keeping parents updated with their child’s progress.
Awign was a startup formed out of the curiosity to simplify the school management procedure. I worked as a UX Designer and Researcher during the whole process and conducted interviews and evaluations along with the team members.

User Study and Research
We interviewed school teachers and parents to understand their daily tasks associated with the school and students. We conducted our interviews in four cities in India viz Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Delhi. We gathered sufficient information about issues related to tracking students progress, generating course schedules and events, finalizing exam times and events, etc. We conducted an online survey of the parents and teachers to get their responses to specific features. Alongside, we studied existing interfaces in the market and the scope of functions covered by them.
We developed initial sketches to analyze the level of complexity that can be simplified with further progress in the product. We developed general navigation flow of the website using powerpoint tools and referenced it with other parameters
- Through iterations and internal reviews, I created user flow for identifying all components and pages involved for specific tasks. We identified seven main issues that were dominant in most of the schools and created primary flows. We divided the tasks into Non-Academic, Academic, HR works and List of subject tasks which further branches out into fixed features
- Next, we focussed on Non-Academic Calendar and identified issues based on our case studies in schools related to planning and implementation of events like conducting summer camps, guest lectures or seminars, Extra-curricular activities, Non-academic competitions, etc. We brainstormed to club one or two events into one avoiding additional and unnecessary features.
We established a link between different tasks to be achieved and parameters listed during user flow to form global linking patterns. This map further helped us to design wireframes and screens for user flow defined in the earlier step.
Low Fidelity Prototypes
After developing concept mapping, we designed low fidelity prototypes using excel and powerpoint tools. These tools assisted us in creating the initial screens quickly to perform user evaluations. We tested these low fidelity prototypes with the parents and school teachers to figure out their ease of understanding interface. We received excellent feedback from users after conducting almost 20- 25 user test.
High Fidelity Prototypes
Low fidelity prototypes proved to be valuable while performing usability testing in schools. Through repeated evaluation and iteration, I created a high fidelity prototype to test the final interactions.
The dashboard provides a general information to the teacher about the respective classes to be conducted for a particular day, Upcoming projects and submissions, Statistics about the performers of a class, and an overview of students attendance in the class.
Attendance page displays class attendance for a particular day and month which helps teachers to analyze the overall performance and individual performance of students. Parents can message the teachers about the reason for their child's absence and vice versa.
Evaluation interface keeps track of submissions from students and notifies the parents in case of incomplete submissions. This helps parents to keep a record of their children activities. It also displays a graph showing a general distribution of the class submission.
Calendar stores events, class schedules, practicals, exams date and class test submission which helps the teacher to be in synchronization with the upcoming events. Alternatively, the teacher can add or delete an event directly through this interface.
Events feature provides teacher an overview of students applied for specific events. Parents can keep track of various competitions or events in the upcoming week or month to ensure their child excel in their respective field.
Demographics of homework, exams, class tests, projects, etc. can be viewed visually with the assistance of analytics page. It's easy to understand for teacher and gives an initial insight into class performance.
The interface provides demographics and general performance of the students as per subjects. It consists of top 5 and bottom five performers of the class and this, in turn, helps the teacher to focus on the child weakness.
Interface display the performance of each student in all the subjects. Filters can be applied to view a student performance in each subject. Teacher can comment on the performance of a student in order to inform parents about their child weakness.
